Letter from the President of HFEE
Welcome to HFEE! I am honored to take this opportunity share with you all that the Huntington Foundation represents as we welcome another school year!
Most of you already know something about HFEE but it is important to really tell HFEE’s story from the very beginning The Huntington Foundation was founded in 1993 to enhance the quality of Huntington Public Schools in the areas of education, the arts, and athletics. We are a volunteer group of parents, students, and community members who work all throughout the year even during summer with a board of directors to fund innovative and exciting educational opportunities for all children in our district. We cultivate relationships with local business, foundations and charitable organizations and secure grants and funding for the many ideas the teachers and bring to us. Our work is ongoing!
All of this funding affords our awesome teachers access to educational programs that are not funded by the school budget. Often these new programs are then incorporated into the curriculum on an ongoing basis. Since its inception, the Foundation has funded One Million Dollars in educator-requested grants ranging from the creation of the Robotics club at Finley Middle School and supporting the need for engineering equipment at the High School, building the AP Biology cell culture lab and supplying technical measuring tools, founding and supporting leadership clubs at the Primary Schools as well as funding “Alpha Better” desks for the special needs classes. These are only a small taste of the incredible contributions HFEE has made to our district over the last 23 years.
As usual we will have 2 deadlines for grant applications from Huntington District 3 teachers. Mini grants ($1,000 or less) are due by November 14th 2016. Star Grants (over $1,000) are due by February 15th 2017. Applications are available on our website huntingtonfoundation.org or on the district website under HFEE. The grant applications are presented to and voted on by the board in accordance with that year’s budget.
If a teacher or staff member has submitted a grant in the past that was not chosen, we encourage them to resubmit the following year! If you have questions don’t hesitate to contact either myself or any board member. email@example.com
Our honorees for this years Gala at Oheka castle on March 2nd are Social Studies Teacher and president of the ATH Mr. James Graber for District, and Huntington Alumni and Owner/Partner of Atlantic Auto Giant Mr. Michael Brown for Community. If you haven’t been to the Gala it’s the most popular event in the district with incredible raffles and crazy auctions and our Grand Prize raffle for a 2017 Lexus IS #300 (24 mo lease) or $5,000 in cash!
The Huntington Foundation is truly grateful to the sponsors, businesses, foundations and charitable giving programs that have catapulted us to the Million Dollar mark! We are also grateful to all the teachers, aides and district employees, and specifically to Mr. Polansky, Mr. DiGiacomo and the School Board, and Mr. Graber and the ATH. We are truly grateful to each and every one of you, members of the Huntington Community for being a large part of our success.
Your support of what we do as a fundraising foundation for educational enhancement makes our job so much easier and ultimately our children reap the benefits of your generosity!!
I wish you all a great school year and thank you for your volunteerism and support of the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education!
Alice Marie Rorke
